Adventist Medical Center Among the Top 5% in the Nation for Medical Excellence

Despite the fact that every hospital aims to provide the highest quality care to every patient, only some manage to achieve superior performance across many common treatments. The 2014 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence places Adventist Medical Center (AMC) in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for consistently demonstrating safe and effective clinical care.

The distinction represents research gathered by Healthgrades, an independent organization who evaluated over 4,500 hospitals across the nation for 31 procedures and conditions. Data shows that if all hospitals performed with the same level of quality as AMC, (between 2010-2012), more than 156,000 patients might have been saved in America.

“Our mission calls us to excellence and it is our privilege to provide patients with the best possible care each and every day,” states Tom Russell, President and CEO of Adventist Medical Center. “Our quality outcomes are the result of physicians, nurses and an entire team who are committed to deliver the right care at the right time to every patient. Excellence is embedded in our culture. It is continuous, collaborative and measurable,” continues Russell.

Conditions and procedures evaluated for award eligibility include Cardiac Surgery, Stroke, Joint Replacement, Spine Surgery and Gastrointestinal care. Healthgrades reviewed and analyzed approximately 40 million Medicare patient records to determine mortality and complications in hospitals. Their methodology weighted the inherent risks of age, gender and preexisting conditions.
